Level 3 Certificate in Understanding Mental Health

Course Overview

We all know what it’s like to feel stressed - being under pressure is a normal part of life. But becoming overwhelmed by stress can lead to mental health problems or make existing problems worse. Due to an increase in negative media coverage in recent years, the need for mental health awareness and support is now greater than ever.

This qualification is designed to provide you with a thorough understanding of mental health and the importance of mental well-being. This course is split into five manageable units which will not only provide you with a more comprehensive understanding of mental health, but they will also give you the knowledge required to work in a variety of roles within both the mental health and social care sector.

The units will cover the context of mental health and well-being and the promotion of it, associated issues and consequences with mental health problems, understanding mental ill health and working in mental health.

Unit 2: Promotion of mental health and well-being

This unit explores the factors that influence mental health and well-being at specific stages of a person’s life, from infancy through to late adulthood, with consideration given to how the effects of adverse childhood experiences and economic, social and personal factors contribute to overall mental health and well-being.

Unit 3: Mental health problems: associated issues and consequences

In this unit, you will go on to understand the effects that mental health problems have, not only for an individual, but the impact on their families and society. The effects of substance and alcohol misuse and the links between these and mental health diagnosis is explored, along with the connections between mental health problems and offending.
